An Interview with artist Alan Robinson

Updated: Aug 22, 2022

1. What drew you to comics originally?

Well, i've been a fan of comics since i have memory, and since i was a kid i've always love to draw. One thing let to another and at the age of 14 i decided i wanted to draw comics for the rest of my life.

2. What do comics allow you to do as a creator?

They allow me to play with my favorite characters and to create something new by putting them on the page. When i was a kid i played with action figures. Now i play with the characters i draw on each page. It's fun as hell.

3. Are there any particular creators/titles who inspire you?

The most fun part of being a comics fan for me was to see the art on each page, so almost everything i read was because of the artist. There are plenty of creators that inspire me and i follow through the years: Arthur Adams, John Romita Jr., Nick Bradshaw, Mike Mignola, Olivier Coipel, Frank Quitely and a lot, lot more.

4. Please tell us about New Fantastic Four, Planet of the Nerds, and any other work you'd like to share about.

Well, New Fantastic Four is my Marvel debut, and it takes place right after the events of Fantastic Four 347-349 (a story written by Walter Simonson and drawn by one of my heroes, Art Adams) in the nineties. This time i make team with another of my heroes in the script: Peter David. It is a great story to work on, full of surprises and fun cameos. Plus, we can see in action together four of the coolest Marvel characters ever: Wolverine, (gray) Hulk, Ghost Rider and Spider-Man. What else can an artist ask for?.

Planet of the Nerds is a great project i made with Ahoy Comics, co-created with Paul Constant. It tells the story of three jocks from the 80's that got freezed in time to wake up in 2019, when everyone carries a computer in their pocket, internet got us connected in no time, and the greatest blockbusters are superhero movies. Our "heroes" must learn to live in a new planet, the planet where us, the Nerds, rule.

5. Where can we find more information about your work?

My instagram and my twitter account is what i upgrade the most with new art, news and previews. They're both @alanrobinsonr
