An Interview with artist Asiah Fulmore

1. What initially drew you to comics?

I’ve always liked reading and I’ve always liked art, so it’s was probably just a natural progression for me. I don’t think I really dug into comics until around middle school. It was around the era when DC had all those shows on Cartoon Network like The Justice League, the multitude of Batman Shows, Teen Titans etc. Once I found out my library actually carried a lot of DC comics it was a wrap.

2. What inspirations and influences shape your art?

My biggest inspirations are probably 90s and 2000s cartoons. A lot of those shows are super nostalgic for me. I find myself relying on a handful of my favorites for inspiration — especially when I work on children’s content.

3. Please tell us about your work for DC with Amethyst.

On Amethyst: Princess of Gemworld, I worked with the wonderful Shannon and Dean Hale. The project was super fun and everyone was super supportive. The book is an introduction of Amethyst’s character and origin story.

4. Any other titles/pieces you’d like to share about, including upcoming titles?

I have another kids comic I’m working on but it’s an indie project that hasn’t been announced yet.

5. Where can we find out more about your work?

You can keep up with me on my Instagram- @asiahfulmore. That’s really the only space I’m active as of right now.
