1. What drew you to comics originally?
I was a fan of comics as a kid and it really never went away. As I grew up, I started noticing and remembering the talent. I found when I was around 12, I was following the artists, more than the characters. I enjoy telling stories and illustration and I decided then that this was a way I could do both.
2. What do comics allow you to do as a creator?
To "write and direct". To collaborate. As an illustrator, you are often simply asked to manifest someone else's vision. It's like having your skills used, but not being truly part of the creation. With comics, even if you're working from a full script, you are collaborating. You are directing, much in the same way a film director and a director of photography does for movies or television. There's character design, set design, colour palette, lighting and storytelling, that an artist gets to make choices on.
3. Are there any particular creators/titles who inspire you?
There are lots, but probably more than anything else, there's "Stray Toasters by Bill Sienkiewizc. When that cam eout I saw a visual language I've never seen in comics before. It had a unique look as well with a mixed media approach that surpassed anything ever done with the "penciller/inker/colourist" approach I was accustomed to.
4. Please tell us about Fallen Angel and any other work you'd like to share about.
"Fallen Angel" was one of my first gigs in this business and it was a thrill to work on. Firstly, it was written by Peter David, but also because it was my first and only ongoing series I worked on. It started at DC and went for almost 2 years and then moved to IDW where we did it for 3 years. During that time of "Fallen Angel", I would also be busy with some cover work and single-issue stories. One such single issue was "X-Men Origins:Beast". Shortly after the cancellation of "Fallen Angel", I went straight to Star Trek comics which I'd do for 15 years now. Currently, I'm pivoting to horror work, and have "Kolchak the Nightstalker", and "Shakespeare Unleashed" coming out as well as my own property, "Behemoth" which is in stores now. It will run as a 4 issue limited series.
5. Where can we find more information about your work?
