An Interview with artist Marc Deering

1. What initially drew you to comics?

Initially, I was very young and they were pretty cheap, but mostly, it was the escape into a wonderful brilliant worlds that were so much fun. I was hugely into Transformers and G.I.Joe through the toys and they via the comics. But then The Dark Knight Returns came out and COMPLETELY blew my mind.

2. For those who don’t know, please tell us about the vital role of the inker in comics.

The inker's role in comics is to finish what the penciller started. The penciller does the storytelling and shot placement, and the inker then adds lighting and texture.

3. You have worked on some very well-known titles — any collaborations and experiences that stand out?

The one that will always stand out is my time on Star Wars Doctor Aphra with penciller Kev Walker. I've never had so much fun in comics.

4. Similarly, any character you’d like to return to — or any new character you’d like to take on?

Love to return to Doctor Aphra, but I'd mostly like a run on the Incredible Hulk. But I highly doubt that'll ever happen.

5. Where can we find more information about your work, including prints?
