1. Thinking of your work with Cathy Camper and Jason Reynolds, what’s the recipe for beautiful collaboration?
Knowing that you are part of the best team on the planet. We are working together and apart to create the best book we can possibly make for our readers. I love being inspired by my collaborators knowing that alone I would have never thought up the ideas they present me with. It's an amazing feeling!

2. Please tell us about your use of both English and Spanish in your books.
I was born in El Paso/Juarez to Spanish-speaking families and my work reflects that in every conceivable way. I love creating worlds based on my American experience which was inspired by the fluid nature of traversing lands on bridges made by my ancestors.

3. What is your message for young authors and creators?
No matter where you land in this world, your origin stories are valuable and important. Share your stories any which way you can. Be proud of who you are and where you are from. There are many people out there with similar stories to yours that need the affirmation that they are not alone in this world. Let them feel seen through your stories!
