1. What inspires your authorship for young readers?
I love the storytelling format of picture books. It's my favorite format regardless of age. I love creating a story readers of any age would connect with. The truest stories are able to do that and it's something I am constantly working towards.
2. What do picture books allow you to do as a storyteller?
The illustrations of a picture book allow for a depth of storytelling only found in picture books. Multiple layers of a story can be told with both the text and the art working together. I love that about picture books.
3. What message/s do you hope to share through your work?
I don't write with specific messages in mind to share because it can come off as didactic. My main objective is to write a story a reader sees themselves in. That they finish the story having felt something. Hopefully something positive--i.e. Hope, optimism, their innate potential for goodness.
4. Any message you’d like to share with young creators?
Read what you love. There are no "girl books" or "boy books", just books. Anyone can love any type of book. We need them all to make us kind, empathetic humans.
