1. As a literacy prof, I’m always curious about how people come to be readers and writers. Can you share some of your journey with us?
I didn’t write much until I was in college. I read a lot of comics growing up, and I also read the books that were assigned to me in school, but it really wasn’t until I started to discover books on my own that I got interested in writing. For several years, I wrote plays, then switched to writing fiction, mainly crime fiction and thrillers. I’ve written over twenty novels, and also write superhero comics for Marvel, DC and other companies, and also original graphic novels, including my latest, CASUAL FLING.
2. What is your writing process like?
I write every day, or at least do some editing. I’m always working on a new book, but work on other writing projects as well, including comics and screenplays.
3. Please tell us about your latest book (a fascinating genre-blending work, by the way).
My new novel is THE NEXT TIME I DIE, a psychological thriller about a man who is stabbed while trying to break up a crime, but instead of dying he winds up in another reality, somewhere between the Twilight Zone and Philip K. Dick. It was a blast to write and great to hear you enjoyed it!
