An Interview with comics creator Dan Conner

1. What drew you to comics?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was the first comic I ever had. So I was drawn in by that property, the cartoon, the toys, etc. Then the first series I read monthly was Sonic the Hedgehog a few years later. Both were published by Archie. So, Archie drew me in as well. :)

2. Who are the authors and artists who inspire you?

Lately, it's been Kevin Eastman, Peter Laird, Ben Bishop, Jim Lawson, Stan Sakai, Ben Dunn, Dan DeCarlo, Batton Lash, John Holmstrom, and so many more!

3. You have worked on some very well-known titles and popular characters — any especially positive experiences you’d like to share about?

Thank you! For me, I'm probably most proud of my work on Ninja Turtles and Nightmare Before Christmas. I was a serious Turtles fan as a kid. My Kindergarten teacher said that every craft we did, I'd make it into a TMNT somehow. So I'm basically doing the same thing. I'm especially thrilled that I got a variant cover in for the first Last Ronin miniseries. I love Last Ronin so much! My heart was racing as I read the final issue! I even went to the shopping center were I used to buy comics as a kid recently and they had Last Ronin #5 with my art in the back, so it was very full circle for me. Further, Nightmare Before Christmas is my favorite Disney movie and so being involved in that world is huge for me! Plus I got to color a 20 issue run! Who gets to do that anymore!?! I even got to do some of the drawing for clothes details and such!

Also, working on Archie covers is very big to me. I get most of my art influence from Archie comics. I think the Archie's Anniversary Spectacular is my favorite I've done thus far. Then the Casper cover I colored and did some digital inks. I loved Casper as a kid, too.

4. Any characters or storylines you’d love to work on?

I'd love to work on Sabrina and Josie and the Pussy Cats. I did a back cover with Little Sabrina, but I'd love to work on her regular comics.

5. Where can we find out more about your work?

You can find me on social media @crazygoodconner and my website is www.connercomics.com. Also my creator-owned series My Gal, the Zombie is at www.mygalthezombie.com or @mygalthezombie.
