An Interview with comics creator Emmanuel Xerx Javier

1. What initially drew you to comics?

i started reading comic books when i was young. In the library were the classic novels turned into comics like Robinson Crusoe, Hamlet, Iliad... they made the unreadable thick novels into less than 100 pages comic books, and it was fun to read...the illustrations were realistic. I forgot the artists name, but later when i was in high school, my friends introduced me to the 22 monthly comic books of 90's era. I remember Scott Campbell's GEN13, then Jim Lee's X-MEN and WildCats...and, of course, there was the phenomenal Travis Charest...there i was hooked and started copying and learning to draw comics.

2. What do comics allow you to do as a creator?

i think comics make the stories easier to understand, and much more entertaining as illustrations are woven into the letters and story.

being able to draw and illustrate the characters, their environment, and story as they happen, panel by panel and page by page, makes the medium so much fun for the artist and hopefully for the readers, as well.

3. Please tell us about your work on Omega 1, Doppelganger, and any other projects you'd like to share about.

Omega 1 is a series we did with Kickstarter and is a 4 issue miniseries with Mark Edward Lewis (writer). it is an action-packed story about cyber hacking and human cloning :).

Doppelganger was printed by Alterna Comics. The writer is Jordan Hart, and this comic is one of my favorites. It is about a normal, soft geeky guy who, after seeing a car crash, the doppelganger spirit transfers to him and starts to mess up his life. This is a more realistic comic so the art is realistic, with lots of emotions and some funny moments. Also, this is the first time I drew twins in a comic book :).

Here are some more projects i worked on you guys might be interested in :).

RavenNevermore - https://xei.io/ - i worked Nuno Texeira, Xei Productions. This is a steampunk 9 set of 25-30 page graphic novels - and it's the first time i drew steampunk and fantasy elements.

Here are also two books self-published collaborations in the Philippines we sell during comic book conventions:

Huwad: Written by Jon Zamar - Art by Emmanuel Xerx Javier. It's a horror/comedy - twist on Phililppine Folklore

Tatsulok: Vision of Dust: written by David Hontiveros, story and art by Emmanuel Xerx.

Religious fantasy about half brothers Lucio (son of Lucifer) and Miguel (son of Angel Michael) and their escapade with Lora a succubus as she finds her way to her resurrection.

i have been working for the past three years with Interweb Comics where i did various titles. Here, i get a chance to pencil, ink and color my own works. :) (most of them). Also being able to work on fun short stories with female leads is awesome!

4. Where can we find more information about your work?
