1. What initially drew you to comics?
I've been reading comic books my whole life, I practically learned how to read from comics, and as a kid I was very artistic. I was that kid in class who could draw anything, and at some point in my early teens I decided I wanted to draw comic books, and I spent countless hours doing that. However, I eventually learned that I didn't have the patience or the technical skill to be a comic book artist, but I always liked making up stories to draw, so I switched my focus to writing comics instead, and never looked back! I love comics, because you can literally do anything in comics. The esteemed Harvey Pekar said (and I'm paraphrasing): "Comics are words and pictures, and you can do anything with words and pictures."
2. Please tell us about your creative process.
It starts with staring at a blank screen for a while! But seriously, usually I have a series of scenes in my head for a particular story, and I just start to plug them into a framework that makes sense to me. I work on a few different stories at the same time, so any time I get stuck, I can jump over to another story and work on that for a while. My actual scripting style is very bare bones and easy to read for an artist, and it's the same style I've been using for over a decade now.
3. Please tell us about Bigfoot Frankenstein and any other titles you'd like to share about.
Bigfoot Frankenstein was my most recent release, the trade paperback of all 5 issues came out in May, and is available to order on Amazon right now. I created Bigfoot with artist Vernon Smith, and it was published by Action Lab comics. It was a lot of fun to work on, we did a lot of "fourth wall" breaking, and we had a lot of really great comments on the series.
I do have a few more things coming out over the next year, including a 5-issue miniseries called Feeder with artist Darryl Knickrehm coming from Behemoth comics, a graphic novella called Strange Case with artist Keith Grachow coming from Scout comics, a 4-issue miniseries called The Argus with artist Darryl Knickrehm coming from Source Point Press, a graphic novel called Pieces of Hate with artist Justin Adcock coming from New Friday comics, another graphic novella called Nothing Makes Sense with artist Noel Tuazon also coming from New Friday, and last but not least, a series of one-shot comics called Wrath with artist Stefano Cardoselli from Source Point Press. Lots of work coming your way!
