1. What initially drew you to comics?
I remember when I was very young that I was fascinated by my father's comics (French comics mainly, some by Moebius, Corben, Segrelles) and later by a friend at school who was very into Marvel comics and I was good at drawing, so I took a short comics class in my city and met some pros and so I decided I wanted to make something out of my drawing skill and comics passion, I left university and went all in with comics, and I was lucky.
2. Please tell us about your creative process.
Sometimes before drawing I browse my fav comics of the moment, this inspires me a lot and puts me in the right mood. As for the actual creative process I re-read the script for the page I'm about to draw, I draw a thumbnail or a small size sketch directly on the page. I then start to sketch out characters and backgrounds and shadows. After that, I make the layer transparent and blue and then is a mix of finer sketching (if the drawing below is too rough) or inking directly.
3. Please tell us about your work on X-Men, Deadpool, and any other titles you'd like to share about.
My work on X-men is mainly on Marauders, which I started to draw since the first issue and before with the characters' study. It was amazing and I had so much fun, and also I was working with Gerry, which I knew since our Deadpool run. As for Deadpool, it was the start of my bigger gigs in marvel and the biggest fun I had on a character that I started to love from the start. I worked on Deadpool illustrated, Deadpool vs Hawkeye, Deadpool secret secret wars and Deadpool regular series.
4. Are there any storylines/characters you'd like to tackle next or revisit?
I always loved Thor and I'd like to be able to draw him one day, but also X-Men and Spider-Man.
5. Where can we find more information about your work?
I'm not the best with my socials (to say the least) but my Instagram is probably the best way to stay up to date with my work. Here's the link: https://www.instagram.com/matteo.lolli/
