An Interview with Kathy Erskine

1. What inspires your authorship?

My readers—any young people (or older) who enjoy my books and take something from them, even just a thought. I’m sharing a story I think is important and that I hope will encourage people to look at something a little differently and maybe talk about it with others, or feel inspired, or gain a sense of hope.

2. What advice do you have for young writers/creators?

Read a lot, write a lot, share your stories. Be willing to accept feedback and make revisions but don’t change the heart of what you’re trying to say. Your voice is unique and we all need to hear it.

3. What is the message you hope rings out to the world from your work?

A feeling of empowerment. To me that means hope plus the ability to do something with that hope. Take action. Even a small action. Young people, all people, need to know that everything they do has an effect on the world. You can change things. We all can. That’s my view of the world, anyway!
