1. Please tell us a bit about Bodhisattva: Instant Karma, including any inspirations.
Instant Karma follows three very different troubled souls in modern day San Francisco, and the mysterious Many-Eyed Man who tries to steer them each on to their appropriate karmic paths. BODHI was inspired by Ancient Astronauts theories (Sitchin, VonDaniken, etc.), Hindu mythology, SIDDHARTHA by Herman Hesse, LORD OF LIGHT by Roger Zelazny, and of course, Jack Kirby.
2. What approach have you taken with this new book?
This is a remastered edition of my very first full length graphic novel, originally published in black & white in 2005. I’ve made numerous art & script fixes, it’s entirely re-lettered, and it’s been beautifully colored by Paul Little!
This new edition came about when I found old notes for the sequel, BODHISATTVA: SHIVA THE DESTROYER. The sequel will be on an even grander scale, and simply demands to be printed in color! So, it was a good opportunity to repackage this, the original volume, and include a couple shorts- a 12-pager, and a 6-pager (done with GRATEFUL DEAD lyricist Robert Hunter).
3. How does this book follow from your previous work?
Well, this one’s not so funny! HOLMES and THE DRUDE are both drug comedies, and even SUPER TERRE.R, my sci-fi/horror series, gets some laughs. But it does ask the question, all of my writing comes back to... what is Reality? Is life as we know it an illusion?
4. Where can we find information about this project, as well as any additional links you would like to share?
It’s on Kickstarter now, you can Back the project until February 10th at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/omahaperez/bodhisattva- instant-karma-psychedelic-suspense-thriller
After that, I’ll have updates on the printing schedule at www.omahaperez.com
5. What is next for you?
I’m juggling too many projects. I’ve got a couple of finished GN scripts I’d like to place with other artists, I need to finish a script for another HOLMES one-shot (also meant for another artist), and then I plan on getting back to drawing the long delayed 2nd full length HOLMES GN. Drawing that should take up most of my time for at least another year.
