Today, to close out February, I'm once again featuring a poetic title. The book in focus is Popular Longing by Natalie Shapero.
This poetry collection from Copper Canyon Press was just released this past month. Shapero writes beautifully, honestly, and sometimes brutally. Separated titles form the first part of the book, as well as the last, with an extended poem ("Don't Spend It All In One Place") spreading across the middle.
Shapero is a poet of descriptive power who shines line on individual moments, relics, and memories.
From the publisher: "With deadpan humor, quick turns, and blunt logic, Natalie Shapero's third collection, Popular Longings, moves nimbly between the lines of power structures."
