1. Please tell us about what draws you to write and create.
Writing for kids is so much fun because the sky is the limit, as far as their imaginations go! There are no boring rules for authors to follow; you can be as funny, or as weird, or as utterly absurd as you want to be! Middle grade is really the age where kids are starting to make their own reading choices and fall in love with the concept of reading - I'm happy to be involved in some small part.
2. Please tell us about your latest work and where to find out more about your writing.
My latest middle grade novel, STRANGEVILLE SCHOOL IS TOTALLY NORMAL, is available on shelves now! It follows Harvey Hill, the new kid at school, as he attempts to navigate new friendships, an escaped mutant rat, baby crocodiles on the loose, and a sinister third floor supply closet that may or may not be kidnapping children . . . The next book in the series, STRANGEVILLE SCHOOL IS DEFINITELY NOT CURSED, will be out September 13th! In the meantime, you can visit me online at darcyamiller.com.
3. What message would you send to young creators?
Don't be afraid to fail! The first book I ever wrote wasn't published. Or the second. Or the third. Or even the fourth. It wasn't until my FIFTH book that we were able to find a home for it on the shelves! So, whatever you do, don't give up. Find what you love to do, and then DO IT!
